He died Thursday, Nov. 16, 2006, at Floyd Memorial Hospital and Health Services in New Albany. He was a New Albany native, self employed and a real estate investor. Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Norma Ruth Wheeler Umbreit; a daughter, Karen Umbreit Wolf and her husband, Charles, Greenville; a son, Edward F. "Ed" Umbreit Sr. and his wife, Patty, Charlestown; four grandchildren, Kara Wolf, Dana Wolf, Edward Umbreit Jr. and Lisa M. Umbreit; and five great-grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman E. and Esther Umbreit Sr.; and a sister, Freda Umbreit. Visitation at Kraft Funeral Service, 2776 Charlestown Road, New Albany, will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 17 and after 9 a.m. Saturday.The family requests expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to the charity of donor?s choice.
