Birth: 1874 Peoria Peoria County Illinois, USA Death: Jan. 21, 1940 Kiowa Township Thayer County Nebraska, USA Frederick William Ludwig Getz was born May 24, 1875, at Peoria, Illinois, at which place he was also baptized in his infancy, At the age of about 9 years he came with his parents to Thayer County Nebraska, and has lived in the Kiowa and Friedensau community ever since. After due instruction in the Christian doctrine he was confirmed by the sainted Pastor John Meyer, at Kiowa, on July 13,1895. On October 10, 1895 he entered the holy state of matrimony with Caroline Neuhart, Pastor A Groerich at Friedensau performing the ceremony. This union was blessed with 7 children, 4 sons and 3 daughters. 2 sons and 1 daughter however, passed away in their infancy. Mr. Getz was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church at Friedensau for more than 40 years. Ailing more or less for over 15 years he became seriously afflicted with a malignant disease about 2 years ago, and several operations during the past year proved of no avail. His strength gradually ebbed away,he being practically bedfast since last July. His end came Sunday morning, January 21, 1940 at 9:30 o'clock, departing as we have reasons to hope, clinging in firm faith to his Savior. He attained an age of 64 years, 5 month and 27 days. Besides his sorrowing widow he is survived by the following Children: Laura, wife of Mr. Carl Reinboth, Deshler; Edwin, of Imbler, Oregon; Robert, at home; and Emma, wife of Mr. Albert Kassebaum, Deshler; 2 sons-in-law; 1 daughter-in-law; 14 grandchildren; 1 brother, Mr. August Getz, Carleton; 2 sisters, Mrs. Ida Holtzen, of Cove, Oregon; Mrs. Lizzie Holtzen of Hershey, Nebr., and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services were to be held from the house of mourning and Trinity Lutheran Church, at Friedensau, on Wednesday afternoon, January 24, 1940. His pastor addressed the assembly, basing his words on 1 Cor. 15, 19, 20 and Rev. 14,13 in German and English respectively. The Male and Mixed Choirs of the congregation and the assembly sang songs of hope and faith. Burial was made in the congregation's cemetery, adjoining the church property.
