- Elizabeth Heim Brown was the first wife of George Adam Brown Sr. They had six children, Mary, Adam, Frances, Barbara and George, and John [Joannes]. Marie Elizabeth went by the name Elizabeth. She died giving birth to a sixth child, who died several months later. The Bishop's Archives in Würzburg, Catholic Parish of Hammelburg, Baptism Book 1826, page 16, listed Elisabetha Heim, b. Feb 14 1826, 7 p.m., "nach Amerika ausgewandert," fifth child, father Konrad Heim, farmer, residence Pfaffenhausen house Nr. 22, mother Elisabetha Mathes, farmer's daughter, home town Diebach, minister not shown, witness Elisabeth Masler (?), farmer's wife, from here. Albin Heim records showed godmother Elisabetha Wahler, time of birth 7 a.m., godmother for confirmation on Sept 12 1841 in Hammelburg as the widow Catharina Schmal. The baptism record of Elizabeth Heim's third child, Francisca, b. 9 Nov 1857, showed the place of birth of Elizabeth Heim as Pfaffenhausen, Bavaria. That record was from St. Joseph Catholic Church in Rochester, records held by Our Lady of Victory Church. The baptism record of Elizabeth Heim's sixth child, Joannes, b. 31 Mar 1862, showed the place of birth of Elizabeth Heim as Pfaffenhausen, Bavaria. That record also from St. Joseph Church. Cheryl Kauffman spoke to a priest at Our Lady of Victory Church in Rochester, and learned that Elizabeth Brown, 36 years old, died of inflamation of the lung, died May 3, 1862, born in Bavaria 1826, buried in Holy Sepulchre, she resided on South Asylum Street, no other names were mentioned. Holy Sepulchre Cemetery shows Elizabeth Brown buried in Section 12, East Division, Tier 2, grave 64, interment May 1872. I found no grave stone there. Most in this section were moved there from St. Joseph's Cemetery off East Main Street in Rochester, when Holy Sepulchre Cemetery was opened in 1871. Dennis Brown 6/28/02. Mary Heim, mother, 1827-1879, is buried in the George Brown plot in Section 10 East Division. This is Mary Breun, sister of George Brown and wife of Andreas Heim, brother of Elizabeth Heim Brown. A granddaughter, possibly Blanche Traub Pierson, described Marie Elizabeth Heim Brown as follows: "It happened like this - one Sunday after Mass I stopped in to see how Grandpa [George] Brown was feeling; it was just a few months before he passed away [on Feb 9, 1905] and he was sitting in the kitchen [prob at 23 Richmond St., Rochester] behind the stove; Grandma [Magdalena Wittman Brown] had gone out to sweep the front porch and he began to talk. Among the things he said was - "Your grandmother [Marie Elizabeth Heim Brown] was the only girl in the family; she had six brothers tall like you [Blanche Traub Pierson] and your mother [Frances Brown Traub] is the only one who looks like her [Marie Elizabeth Heim Brown]. He did not have time to say much as Grandma was coming back and he motioned me not to say any more. I do not think he spoke much of the past as the Grandma Brown [Magdalena] that we knew was terribly jealous of him. I have a small book in which I keep all the information about the Traub, Brown and Pierson clans. It is interesting to go thru it. I'll start from the beginning and give you a few facts as I know them; they might interest you. I do not know the date when George Brown (Braun was the original spelling so I have been told by Aunt Louise [Louisa M. Brown]) and Elizabeth Heim were married but from that union came the following - " [The five children, Mary, Adam, Frances, Barbara and George are listed with dates] "Then there was another baby after George [Brown b. Apr 11 1860] presumably in 1861; our [underlined] Grandmother died as a result of this confinement and the baby died a few days after her. My mother [Frances Brown Traub] told me that in those days [1862] there was very little money, with no carpets on the floor; the woman who was taking care of our grandmother [Marie Elizabeth Heim Brown] mopped the floor and as a result Grandmother got a milk leg from cold and dampness and died. With the date above you will see that there were five children in five years and ten months. The second Grandma Brown [Magdalena Wittman Brown] told me that she came to this country on a sailing vessel and I think it correct in saying that it took them three months. Anyway she [Magdalena] got here; she kept house for Grandpa [George Brown Sr.] and eventuall[y] married him; from that union came the following" [The seven children, Louise, Margaret, Josephine, Joseph, Charles, Marx and Louis are listed with dates.] Dennis Brown 6/23/2001 Albin Heim from Hammelburg, Germany wrote in December 2001 that he has a Heim genealogy that includes Elizabetha Heim, b. Feb 14 1826 in Phaffenhausen. He provided an extensive genealogy that included the six brothers of Elizabetha, Johannes, Johann Adam, Lorenz, Andreas, Joseph, and Johann Georg. This information matches the statement of George Brown (above) that Elizabeth was the only girl in the family and that she had six brothers. The name Andrew matches with the name Andreas. The location of birth also matches. Albin also provided information that Andreas emigrated to America in 1852 and that his father Konrad Heim died on Sep 27 1850. Based on this matching information, I am adding Albin Heim's family information to our tree. Reinhard Hofer, Hans-Resch-Str.6, D-94099 Ruhstorf, Germany, professional genealogist, wrote on Jan 8 2003, mailing a photocopy of Elisabetha Heim's birth record from the Catholic parish in Hammelburg, showing her born Feb 14 1826, 7 p.m., fifth child, fth. Konrad Heim, residence Pfaffenhausen house Nr. 22, mth Elisabetha Mathes, farmer's daughter, from Diebach, baptized Feb 15 1826, priest not shown, witness Elisabeth Masler, farmer's wife, from here [Pfaffenhausen].
