MRS. WILLARD PIONEER OF COUNTY, PASSES
Mrs. Barbara Elizabeth Willard, a pioneer in Skamania County resident, died Saturday in Hood River Hospital after a month's illness. She was 83 years of age. Funeral services were held Wednesday at Gardner's Funeral home in White Salmon and interment was in the Underwood Cemetery. She was the widow of Emil Willard, who preceded her in death 26½ years ago. Mrs. Willard had made her home in the Willard district, which bears her name, in eastern Skamania County for the past 56 years. She came to Skamania County in May, 1894, from a Louisville, Ohio, as the bride of Mr. Willard, and lived continuously in the original residence in the Little White Salmon Valley. She was born in January 3, 1868, in Louisville, Ohio.
Mrs. Willard was an active member of the Evergreen Grange No. 1076, and a member of the German Evangelical Church. She led an active life and won the affection and respect of all who knew her. Surviving her are 3 daughters, Mrs. Harry Davison, Mrs. Emery Tobin and Mrs. Herman DeWater; a son, Harold Willard; three granddaughters, Mrs. Clifford Homan, Miss Barbara DeWater and Miss Doris Tobin, and a sister, Miss Matilda M. Egger, in Ohio. Rev. Hansen, of Willard, officiated at the services. Mrs. Hansen sang "Nearer My God To Thee" and "In The Garden," favorite hymns of Mrs. Willard. Pall bearers were Louis Nevenski, Sid Ostrowski, Chet Ostrowski, Harry Wilson, Herb Edwards and Lowell Leighton.
