He was born July 9, 1913 in Lodi and was a 1932 graduate of Lodi Union High School, where he played football and ran track. Mr. Mettler married Hilda Schmidt Dec. 12, 1934 in Lodi. He was a self-employed farmer, growing grapes, cherries and almonds for more than 30 years. He was a member of Zion Reformed Church in Lodi, a 27-year member and past president of the Lodi Trailer Club, a trustee for the Henderson School District. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Kathy Haynie, of Lodi; son, Curtis Mettler, of Lodi; brothers, Arthur and Howard Mettler, of Santa Cruz; grandchildren, Keith Mettler, Dean Mettler, Karen Edwards, Sean Haynie and Chris Haynie and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Leon and Albert Mettler. A graveside service will be held Saturday at Lodi Memorial Cemetery with Pastor Matt Duerr of Zion Reformed Church officiating.
