Martha "Marty" Hoff
The funeral for Martha "Marty" Hoff, 85, Oriska, will be 10 a.m., Tuesday, Oct.17, 2006, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 499 N.W. 4th Ave., Valley City. Rev. Ellen Arthur will officiate and burial will be in Woodbine Cemetery, Valley City. She died, Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2006, in Green Bay, Wisconsin. Visitation will be on Monday from noon until 7 p.m. at Oliver-Nathan Funeral Chapel, Valley City. A prayer service will be held there, beginning at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue an hour prior to services in the church on Tuesday. Martha Rose Lettenmaier was born on March 30, 1921, on a farm near Sanborn, the second of six children born to Anna Elizabeth (Froelich) and Herbert F. Lettenmaier. When she was 5 years old, her family moved to a farm four miles north of Valley City, that her maternal grandfather, John Froelich, had built. She attended a rural grade school, Valley City High School, and then worked as an assistant cook at Strong and Ward Caf? in Valley City. On Dec. 25, 1942, she married Ruben R. Hoff at Trinity Lutheran Church of Valley City. They resided on a farm 12 miles northeast of Valley City for nearly 57 years of marriage. Ruben passed away Nov. 10, 1999. Through the years, Marty was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and was active in a variety of church and community activities. Her passion was gardening, and she enjoyed designing and planting many flower gardens, trees, shrubs, plants, and vegetables around her home. She always enjoyed sharing her many flowers, vegetables, fresh fruit, and homemade jams and jellies with friends, neighbors, and relatives. In addition to gardening, Marty enjoyed crafts, embroidery, and sewing, reading, writing poetry, and photography. She is survived by her two children: Linda Losey, De Pere, Wis., and Barbara (Jurgen) Suhr Page; and three grandchildren: Carlisa Inscore of Oriska; London Losey (Alex Gehrig) Shumiral, Ecuador; and Brett (Kelly) Losey, Ledgeview, Wis.; three great-grandchildren: Jesse, Brian, and Lance Inscore of Oriska; and two sisters: Harriet (Orville) Lowry, Fargo; and Jean (Niles) Fletcher; West Fargo. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ruben; two brothers, Arthur and Roy; and a sister, Margaret "Betty" Lettenmaier. Funeral arrangements are with Oliver-Nathan Funeral Chapel, Valley City.
