He died on 13 January 1992 at Mercy Hospital, Davenport, Iowa, and was buried on 16 January 1992 at the National Cemetery, Rock Island Arsenal, Iowa.In high school, he participated in track, basketball and football. He was the only player from his high school in Nebraska to play in the 1959 Shrine Bowl. One of Darrell?s hobbies was gardening. His gardens produced lots of good looking vegetables. He liked music, played the trombone, enjoyed Country and Western music and big band marches.He served as a 1st Lieutenant in the Army and spent a tour of duty in Viet Nam. He worked for the federal government for 25 years. He was a Civil Engineer for the Corps of Engineers. He worked at the Rock Island Arsenal from 1979-1992. He was in charge of quality assurance for construction of military projects. He was a member of the Eldridge United Methodist Church and the society of Professional Engineers.He was married at Ames, Iowa, on 20 June 1971 to Judy Ann Chance.
