MurphyHelen G. Murphy, 89, died at 3:44 p.m. Jan. 23, 2008, at her residence.She was born July 15, 1918, in Lima to Albert and Martha Cardar Mandery, who preceded her in death. On Aug. 18, 1938, she married James J. Murphy, who died Aug. 7, 1980.Mrs. Murphy was a homemaker and had retired from J.C. Penney Co. Inc., when it moved into the Lima Mall. She was a life member of St. John Catholic Church, Lima, and its Altar Rosary Society. She was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1275 Auxiliary, Women of the Moose Chapter 52 and Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 370 Auxiliary. She was a 40-year volunteer at St. Rita's Medical Center, serving most of those years in the thrift shop. Her children and grandchildren were her pride and joy. She loved traveling, going out to eat and dancing with her friends.Survivors include three sons, Patrick "Pat" Murphy, Michael "Mike" Murphy and Steve (Amy) Murphy, all of Lima; a daughter, Colleen (James) Bresson, of Lima; two brothers, Earl Mandery, of Florida, and Thomas Mandery, of Lima; a sister, Iona Beach, of Lima; nine grandchildren, Mark Murphy, Michael D. Murphy, Jason (Sharla) Murphy, Kyle (Kim) Murphy, Todd (Lisa) Bresson, Bill Bresson, Lora (Mike) Rinehart, Patrick Murphy and Stephanie Murphy; 21 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; and special friends, Betty Ribley, Betty Baumgardner, Ruby Hooker and Eileen Schafer.She was preceded in death by two sisters-in-law, Hazel and Dorothy Mandery; and a brother-in-law, Eugene Beach.Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10 a.m. Monday at St. John Catholic Church, Lima. Father William Rose will officiate.
