Robert Jerome Kochert, age 70, passed away on May 23, 2008, at his home in Burleson County,TX. Visitation will be Sunday, May 25,2008 from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. and Monday, May 26 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Strickland Funeral Home, 530 Hwy. 36 S. in Caldwell TX. A Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be offered Tuesday, May 27 at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Frenstat,TX by Father Dimitrij Colankin. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery.
Robert was born March 5, 1938 to Anna Mertens and Elmer Edward Kochert, Sr. in Alamo, Texas. He was the tenth child in a family of ten children. He graduated from Donna High School in 1958 and attended Pan American College, now the University of Texas Pan American at Edinburg TX.
Robert joined the Texas Army National Guard on April 5, 1960 as a member of the 49th Armor Division. He served ten months active duty at Fort Knox, Louisiana before returning to Texas to serve in the home National Guard until April 4, 1966.
He married Jane Ellen Bryan on April 25, 1964 in Pharr, Texas. They lived in Alamo, Texas where Robert worked for the City of Alamo for three years. They then moved to Aransas Pass where he worked for the city for a year before moving to Seabrook TX. Robert went to work for the City of Seabrook TX where he remained for 25 years until his retirement in 1994.
Robert was an avid collector and he loved gardening and woodworking. He built his own home and proudly gave tours to everyone who came to visit.
He was preceded in death by his beloved son, Travis Paul Kochert, his parents, Elmer, Sr. and Anna Kochert; his brothers Gerald and Carroll Kochert, and a sister Christel Kochert Schoonover.
He is survived by his wife, Jane Bryan Kochert; two sons and daughters-in-law, Wilbur and Kari Kochert of Seabrook, and Mark Kochert of Somerville; daughter-in-law, Paula Kochert of Cleveland; grandchildren, Ashley, Joshua, and Brittany Kochert of Seabrook, and Rachel and Robert Paul Kochert of Cleveland; three brothers and sisters-in-law, James and Irene Kochert of Alamo, Elmer and Olga Kochert of Raymondsville, and Ronald and Charlotte Kochert of Alamo, sisters and brother-in-law, Marion Kochert Eastwood and husband Carl of Rosenberg, Betty and Dorothy Kochert of Alamo, sister-in-law, Helen Diggs Kochert of Lindsay, Oklahoma, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Serving as pallbearers will be Will Kochert, Mark Kochert, Joshua Kochert, Robert Paul Kochert, Ronald Kochert, and Jimmy Eastwood. Honorary pallbearers will be Jimmy Kochert, Elmer Kochert, Jr., Carl Eastwood, and Bob Litzman.
The family requests memorials be made to the American Cancer Society or to Hospice Brazos Valley, 302 E. Blue Bell Rd., Brenham, TX 77833.
