Raymond Hoffman, 78, of Lodi, died Nov. 26 at a local hospital from natural causes. He was born Aug.20, 1924 in McPherson County, S.D. The Rev. Hoffman was raised and attended school in South Dakota. He received his bachelors degree from Ellendale State College and his Master of Divinity degree from North American Baptist Seminary in Sioux Falls, S.D. He married Esther Fischer June 5, 1947 in Ashley, South Dakota. The Rev. Raymond pastored churches in South and North Dakota and Oregon, he also served as a missionary with the North American Baptist Mission in Cameroon, West Africa for eight years. After retirement in July of 1990, he moved to Lodi where he did interim pastoral work with several churches and served as visitation pastor for First Baptist Church of Lodi. He is survived by his wife, Esther Hoffman, of Lodi; son, daughter; brother, Ernie Hoffman; sister, LuElla Opp; and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Herbert Hoffman and Helmuth Hoffman.
