"Gene" Hazelwonder, 60, formerly of Calhoun County, died at 2:48 p.m. Sunda y, March 3, 1996, at his home. Ge was a salesman at Ray Gremli Chevrolet in Alton and was a U.S. Marine during the Korean Wa r. Born in Michael Aug. 20, 1935, he was a son of the late Guy "Taxi" and Pearl (Angel) Hazelwon der. He married the former Julia Ann "Dee-Dee" Snider Oct. 21, 1957, in Los Angeles, California an d she died June 23, 1990. Surviving are a daughter, Carol Jean Hoffman of Florissant, Mo.; two sons, David Eugene Hazel wonder of Republic, Mo., and Gary Guy Hazelwonder of London England, a grandson and four sist ers, Leota Robeen of Springfield, Mo., Lillian Preston of Panama City, Fla., Daisy Mae Frair e of Caolvina, Calif., and Elaine DeSherlia of Hardin. He was preceded in death by two infant sisters and two brothers, John and Michael Hazelwonder . Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Hanks-Gubser Funeral Home in Hardin, where s ervices will be at 11 a.m. Thursday. The Rev. Sylvano Pera, O.F.M., will officiate. Burial will be in the Hardin City Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.
