Zimmerle was the foreman of the shipping clerk's at the Brown Shoe Factory in Olney Illinois.He was very talented in wood working and built or assisted in building several houses. Later in his life his occupation is listed as a "Drayman". He made his living as a Carpenter and used a push cart to carry his tools to the work site. He never owned or drove an automobile. He lived on West Lafayette Street and his home was the second home to many of the Zimmerle children. John and his wife and two of their children are buried in Haven Hill Cemetery in a grave plot purchased by his father John P. Zimmerle
