Born in Wheeling, W.Va and moved to Mt Washington in 1902. First job was in the glass industry and he was an editor of the Glass Workers and China and Glass Lamps publications. Retired in the early 1950s. He and his son were co-owners of the Mt. Washington News which they was sold in October 1918 to The South Hills Printing Company. He built the Lincoln Theater in 1914 on Mt. Washington, closing it when "talkies" became popular about 1930. Was a member of the 19th Ward Memorial Committee, Knights of Pythias, and Order of Forresters. He also belonged to the Mt. Washington United Presbyterian Church, and was a charter member of the Maeenerchor Hall Association. Preceeded in death by 2 sons: Robert Dieter Gauding (d. Feb 192) and George W. Gauding (d. Oct 1922). Survived by a wife, Mrs. Rose E. Gauding, a two sons Harold C. (St. Petersburg, FL), Shirley A. (Brentwood, PA). Also survived by a sister Mrs. Emma Stieglitz (Elwood, IN), four grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
