Hunkler: Funeral services for John Nicholas Hunkler, 68, prominent resident of 138 Euclid Avenue were held Saturday morning at nine o?clock at the Church of the Assumption. Rev. Father Cornelius Gallagher officiating and interment was made in the Catholic Cemetery. Mr. Hunkler died in Barnesville General Hospital Wednesday, Aug 3 about four o?clock, following a prolonged illness of several years. He was born in Monroe County near Miltonsburg, January 2, 1887, a son of Michael and Barbara Burkhart Hunkler. On August 8, 1906 he married Mary Louise Diegmiller. For many years he operated the Hunkler Restaurant, being well known in the community. He was a member of the Church of the Assumption, Holy Name Society, Elks ans Eagles Lodges. Memorial services were conducted by the church and lodges at the funeral home Friday evening. Surviving are his widow, Mary L., three sons, Arthur F., John Robert and Mansel R. Hunkler all of Barnesville; a sister, Mrs. H.L. Lynn of Barnesville; four brothers, Frank Hunkler of RD 2; Clem Hunkler, Dennison; Will Hunkler of Barnesville and Charles A. Hunkler of Canton; 11 grandchildren and one great-grandchild also survive. A son Walter, died December 6, 1951, and two brothers and two sisters are also deceased.
