Aug 16 - Funeral services for Wilfred E Burgett, pioneer Flaxton resident, were held today at 1 p.m. from the the Presbyterian church in Flaxton, the Reverend Mr. Atkinson officiating. On Tuesday, Masonic burial services will be held at Orr, N.D. the old home of Mr. Burgett. Mr. Burgett's death which came as a distinct shock to the community, occurred yesterday at the Kenmare Hospital following an operation for a ruptured appendix, which was performed Thursday. Mr Burgett was born December 22, 1877 in Henry County, Ill. In 1882, he moved with is parents to Orr, where he spend his boyhood. He attended the University of North Dakota and graduated from that institution in 1901. One year later he came to Flaxton. There he engaged in the real estate and loan business, later served for 20 years as president of the Citizens State Bank and at the time of his death had a number of oil interests throughout the state. Mr. Burgett took some part in state politics and in 1915-1916, he served as a member of the state legislature for Burke and Divide counties. He married on January 26, 1921 to Miss Edna Stoffel of Orr and to this were born four children all of whom survive him. They are Robert, 4 years, Donna, 3 years, Maxine, 2 years, and Geraldine 4 months. In addition to his wife and children, he is survived by three sisters, Mrs W. L Bronson of Flaxton, Mrs A.J. Johnson of Alliance, Alberta, and Mrs. T.J. Quinn of Seattle, Wash. and three brothers, Orr and Frank of Flaxton and Fred of McIntosh, South Dakota. Mr Burgett was active in civic work and was a respected citizen of the community in which he lived. He served as Mayor of Flaxton for one term and for many years was Clerk of the Flaxton Board of Education. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge of Bowbells. Interment will be made in the family burial ground at Inkster, North Dakota.
