Her warmth and humor will be missed by a great many friends, and her family is stunned at the suddenness of her passing. She was born on December 14, 1928 to Louis A. and Jeannette Swisher Klinker and grew up in Ripley, Ohio, near Cincinnati. She moved to Marietta with her husband, Henry "Bud" Voelker, in 1957. She raised her children, Susan (Rick) Blauvelt, Hank Voelker, and Scott Voelker, and worked as a secretary for the Marietta City Schools. Bud and Shirley were married 50 years before he died in 1999.Shirley attended the Norwood Methodist Church, and volunteered there, and for many years, at the Tourist and Convention Center's ?Trolley', the Toy and Doll Museum, and the Caring Connection. She was one of the sharpest bridge players in town, and played with 4-9 groups of friends every week, and at the O'Neill Center. She also liked to go to concerts and plays, and dinner with her friends and family, and thanks to her iPad, she was never out of touch with the people closest to her. She swam regularly at the Betsey Mills Club, and in Venice, Florida where she went to live every winter for four months.In addition to her three children, all of Marietta, Shirley is survived by three beloved granddaughters: Emily Voelker-Reich (Josh) of Chicago, IL, Lauren Blauvelt of Cincinnati and Rachel Blauvelt of Marietta; and a brother, Randall Klinker (Connie), of Cincinnati, and 7 nieces and nephews. She also had a sister, Lois Jean Dragoo, of Ripley, now deceased.Friends may call at the Marietta Chapel of Cawley & Peoples Funeral Home on Saturday from 3 to 6 p.m. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, September 18, 2011, at 1:30 p.m. at the Norwood United Methodist Church, with The Rev. Stacy Evans officiating.
