Bio: KEWANEE - David W. Hertenstein, 66 years old, of Peoria, Ill., died at 2:20 a.m. Saturday, March 15, 2008, at Royal Oaks Center in Kewanee, Ill.David was born March 18, 1941, in Morton, Ill., the son of Warren and Thelma (Birky) Hertenstein.He is survived by his mother, Thelma; sister, Judy Swager both of Morton; his children, Michael Hertenstein of Chicago and Susan Reese of Galesburg, Ill.; his granddaughter, Grace; and four nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Warren; and his sister, Carol (Frank).David graduated from Morton High School in 1960 and attended the Chicago Academy of Fine Arts. After an apprenticeship with Ralph Heineman Advertising in Chicago, he worked there as an illustrator, as well as at other advertising and publishing firms, including the Peoria Journal Star.David designed the official flag for the Village of Morton in 1971. The design has been used as a flag and an official logo for Morton ever since. Recently, David's early work was part of a special display at the Morton Public Library. A record collector and aficionado of country and Gospel music, David passed away peacefully in his sleep after spending time with his family and listening to his favorite music by the Blackwood Brothers Quartet.Cremation has been accorded. A visitation took place at the Rux Funeral Home in Kewanee.The family will celebrate his life on his birthday, Tuesday, March 18. Private burial will take place with the family at a later date.
