Regina Marie (Nina) Lopez Eddington died suddenly and unexpectedly at her home in California on Oct. 8, 2010.Nina was born July 5, 1962, in Queens, N.Y. She was the second of three daughters born to Joan B. Lopez and A. Peter Lopez. The family moved to New Milford in 1975 and Nina graduated from New Milford High School in 1980. While at New Milford High School, she was a member of the gymnastics team and a leader in organizing school social activities. After high school, Nina attended Goucher College in Towson, Md., and graduated in 1984 with a degree in American studies. After college, Nina took a position with Bristol-Meyers-Squibb where she established a successful career as a marketing representative. She moved to Philadelphia where she met her husband, Thomas Eddington. The couple married in 1991 and had two children, a son, Andrew, born in 1992, and a daughter, Laney, born in 1994. Between 1998 and 2002, the family relocated to England where Nina devoted herself to raising her children and creating a beautiful home. She served as president for the American Club and traveled extensively throughout Europe. They returned to the U.S. in 2002 and settled in Mill Valley, Calif. Nina quickly became recognized as a vibrant part of the Marin community.Nina is survived by her husband, Tom; and their children, Andrew and Laney of Mill Valley, Calif.; her parents, Joan and Peter Lopez of New Milford; and her sisters, Julie Sakowski (Mark) of Corte Madera, Calif., Susan Rosén (Thomas) and their children, Hollyn and Grant Rosén, of North Caldwell, N.J., and Kathrine Hartsock of Irving, Texas.A funeral service will take place at Merryall Union Chapel, Chapel Hill Road, New Milford, Conn., on Saturday, Oct. 23, 2010, at 2:30. The internment will follow in Upper Merryall Cemetery. A reception honoring Nina's life and memory will take place at Hopkins Inn, New Preston, Conn., following the services. Nina was born July 5, 1962 in New York City, New York the second of three daughters to Joan (Boehm) Lopez and A. Peter Lopez. Nina spent the first part of her life swimming in the Atlantic and playing in the sand dunes on the beaches of Long Island, NY. At the age of 13, she moved to New Milford, CT and traded in the beaches for long bicycle rides and hikes in the foothills of the Berkshire Mountains. Nina graduated from New Milford High School in 1980. While at NMHS, she was a member of the gymnastics team and a leader in organizing school social activities. She attended Goucher College in Towson, MD and graduated in 1984 with a degree in American Studies. After college, Nina moved to Pennsylvania. Eventually settling in Philadelphia, she became a successful marketing representative for Bristol-Meyers-Squibb and met Tom Eddington, who ultimately became her husband. Nina and Tom married in 1991, and were joined by their children Andrew in 1992 and Laney in 1994. In 1998, Nina and her family 'crossed the pond' and moved to England. During her four years in England, Nina explored the English countryside, traveled around Europe, made countless friends and was president of the American Club. Nina and her family moved to Mill Valley in 2002 and she has been a vibrant part of the Marin community ever since. Nina is survived by her son Andrew, daughter Laney, and husband Tom of Mill Valley; parents Joan and Peter Lopez of New Milford, CT, sister Julie Sakowski (Mark) of Corte Madera, Susan Rosen (Thomas) and their children Hollyn and Grant Rosen of North Caldwell, NJ, honorary sister Katherine Hartsock of Texas; Father-in-Law Bill (Adie) Eddington, Mother-in-law Janet (Dick) Eddington-Culbertson, Sisters- in-Law Sheila DeCair (Lynn) and their children Colin and Monica, Cheryl DeVola (Jerry) and their daughter Bella, Sherry Travis (Clay) and their daughter Christina, Kimberley (Gary) Jenkins and their daughter Jodi, Brothers-in-law Greg Eddington and his children Austin and Alex, Alex (Michelle) and their children Mickaela, Gabe, Noah, Jonas, and Audrey Grace, Mark (Karen) Hatley and their children Michael, Brandon, and Brian; and countless friends around the world. She loved, and was loved by, them all dearly. She will be greatly missed. A celebration of Nina's life will be held at 4:00 on Monday, October 18 at the Fernwood Cemetery in Mill Valley. Nina was a caring soul and beautiful spirit who loved nature. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her honor to the Marine Mammal Center in Sausalito, CA or WildCare in San Rafael, CA.
