The family moved from North Dakota to White Butte, SD when he was a child. After the death of his father in 1939, the family moved to Lemmon where he attended school. Christ was inducted into the U.S. Army on February 22, 1943 in Lemmon and entered active duty March 1, 1943 at Fort Snelling, MN. His military occupation specialty was Airframe Power Plant and engine mechanic 747. He was also qualified with Carbine MKM. He was involved in the air offensive over Europe, including Normandy, February 2, 1945; Northern France, March 30, 1945; Rhineland, February 14, 1945; Battle of Ardennes, May 21, 1945; and Central Europe, June 13, 1945. They traveled throughout North and South Dakota working on construction projects. They lived at Shadehill during the construction of Shadehill Reservoir and then moved to Lemmon. To this union five children were born, Darlene, Stan, Dan, Lanny, and Linda. Christ started his trucking business hauling sand, gravel, coal, livestock and crushed rock. He purchased ready mix trucks from a junk dealer, overhauled them using his skills learned in the military. With a vision and a few pieces of assorted equipment, he started Hoff Ready Mix in 1965. With a lot of dedication, determination, sacrifices, hard work, and help from his sons and family, he grew the business into what it is today, serving the construction industry's needs supplying crushed rock, sand, gravel, and concrete for monumental projects, with a fleet of trucks and batch plants. Christ loved spending the day sharing his love of fishing and camping with his wife, Norma, family and friends. During the winter months, he enjoyed ice fishing and bowling. At an early age, he began playing the harmonica. On November 6, 2007, Christ lost the love of his life Norma. Her passing left a void in the lives of many, but no one felt the loss as deeply as Christ. He then turned the day to day operations of the business over to Lanny, his son Josh, and Dan.
