Burial was at St. John's Catholic Cemetery in Viola.He was born on Sept. 28, 1901 in Gilchrest, IL, the son of Louis Schaechter and Ida Roettler Schaechter. He was the owner of the Viola Garage Mechanic for 45 years, retiring in 1969.He married Florance Mae Soseman on June 28, 1930 in Peoria.He was a member of St. John's Catholic Church and had served as an usher. He was a member of the Viola Volunteer Firemen and had served as secretary for the organization. He was town clerk of Viola for 15 years.Survivors include his wife; daughters, Margie A. Frakes of Rock Island and Mim Merta of Dunedin, FL; a son, Charles Robert of Moline; 12 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; sisters, Josephine Carlson Hunting of Phoenix and Marjorie Steiner of Sacramento, CA, and a brother, Rev. Louis Schaechter of Oak Lawn, IL.Memorials may be made to the Church or to the Altar and Rosary Society of the Church.
