Grate, 82, of Corunna died Friday, Aug. 23, 2013, at Betz Nursing Home in Auburn. Mr. Grate was a lifetime DeKalb County farmer and also a self-employed used implement dealer. He was born Aug. 17, 1931, in Steuben County to Brownie Harold and Nettie (Myers) Grate. He married Donna Walker on May 31, 1952, and she died May 7, 1975. He then married Beulah Rose on Jan. 16, 1976, and she died March 30, 2010. Surviving are his children, Sharon Kennedy of Auburn, Janet (Dave) Gafken of Auburn, Steven (Denise) Grate of Waterloo, Ronald (Lori) Grate of Corunna, Kevin (Amy) Grate of Corunna, and Sheila (Mark) Stonebraker of Corunna; 19 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and spouses, he was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Rodney Kennedy; two sisters, Frances Hoyer and Hilda Treesh; and three brothers-in-law, Clair Erwin, Paul Hoyer and Roger Treesh. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Feller and Clark Funeral Home, 875 S. Wayne St., Waterloo, with the Rev. Al Wingfield officiating. Burial will be in Fairfield Cemetery in rural Corunna.
