Bio: Lewis was the son of Ludwig Donmyer (1767-1838) and Margaret Overdaul, (b 8 Aug 1770).The first wife of Lewis was Catherine Shaffer (b 11 Mar 1807 in Summerfield, Cambria County, Pennsylvania; d 18 Mar 1862 in Richland, Cambria County, Pennsylvania). Children born to Lewis and Catherine were; Margaret, Mary, Jacob (b 26 Sep 1830, d 18 Nov 1879), Simon Peter (b 13 Jan 1832, d 21 Jul 1905), Lewis, Jr. (b 1833, d 3 Sep 1906), Infant, Susan Vioma (b 10 Feb 1836, d 23 Oct 1912), Sarah (b 10 Feb 1835, d 17 Oct 1912), Catherine (b 4 May 1838 d 22 Jan 1918), Daniel (b 16 Nov 1839, d 4 Sep 1917) Gabrial B. (b 26 Aug 1841, d 13 Mar 1926), Henry (b about 1843, d 1851) and Elizabeth (b 6 Jun 1847, d 31 May 1889).After Catherine's death, he married Elizabeth Seese on 20 April 1866 in Johnstown, Cambria County, Pennsylvania. Children born to Lewis and Elizabeth were; Amanda (b 19 Jul 1866 d 1948), Emma D. (b 22 Jul 1868, d 9 Oct 1955), Francis Lemore (b 4 Dec 1869), Annie Rebecca (b 24 Nov 1871) and Gussie.Lewis Donmyer decided to settle in Saline County, Kansas after making several trips there. He was attracted to the level land, fertile soil and better advantages for a farmer. He had a large family, and was preceded to Kansas by three of his sons; Lewis, Jr. and Gabriel (and their families) in 1869, and Jacob in 1872. Simon Peter followed in 1873.Lewis was reared a Lutheran. He was liberal with his donations to the church. In Pennsylvania he had donated ground for a church and cemetery. In Saline County he donated the land for the Donmyer Private Burying Ground. In 1903 Elizabeth Donmyer, his widow, deeded the plot of land that the cemetery is on th the Donmyer Cemetery Associaton.He died in New Cambria, Saline County, Kansas.__________________________________________The following was provided by Find a Graver Charles Johnson (#48218125):"I am a descendant of Lewis Donmyer and I can tell you with certainty that his birthdate was 29 Dec 1802, not 1799 as shown on the headstone. This is a matter of record in the churchbook of the Lutheran church at Aaronsburg, Centre County, Pennsylvania. The earlier date was accepted incorrectly but I personally discovered the correct date in the church record which is located at the Lutheran Seminary at Gettysburg Pennsylvania."
