Bio: William J. Rieber Sr. of Rock Hill, a self-employed real estate broker and a longtime area resident, died Saturday, November 25, 2000, at St. Vincent's Hospital in New York City. He was 73 years of age.The son of the late Phillip John and Marie Murphy Rieber, he was born March 15, 1927, in Nyack. He was predeceased by his first wife, Francine Hudson Rieber.A U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, he was a member of St. Peter's Church in Monticello and an active 39-year member and current treasurer of the Rock Hill Fire Department.Mr. Rieber was a graduate of Regis High School in New York City and attended George Washington University. He was a member of the American Legion in Nanuet, the Sullivan County Board of Realtors and a former trustee of the Village of Nyack.In a family statement, it was said, "He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who will be missed by all."He is survived by his wife, Margaret Mulhearn Rieber, at home; two sons, William J. Rieber Jr. and Kevin M. Rieber, both of Rock Hill; three daughters, Karen Rieber Sussman and Theresa Rieber Stanton, both of Rock Hill, and Laura Rieber Barr of Lake Mary, Fla.; a stepson, David Rubin of Monticello; a brother, John Rieber of Folly Beach, S.C.; 15 grandchildren, Sean, Brian, Keith, Brandon, Connor, Cara, Shanna, Kristen, Kelsey, Ginette, Joseph, James, Collin, Seanna and Tristan; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son, James M. Rieber, and three brothers, Walter, George and Phillip Rieber.Friends may call at the VanInwegen-Kenny Funeral Home, 195 Broadway, Monticello, on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.Firematic services will be held Tuesday evening at the funeral home.A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St Peter's Church in Monticello.Burial will be made in St. Peter's Cemetery in Monticello.Memorial contributions may be made to the Rock Hill Fire Department, P.O. Box 116, Rock Hill, N.Y. 12775 or to the charity of one's choice.
