She was born Nov. 24, 1911, in Wichita, Kan., to Joseph David and Mary Ewing (Parks) Jennings. She moved to Texas in 1935 with her parents. They established their home in the Rio Grande Valley. Wanda was a soloist for different civic organizations and she was very active in the church choir. She married Arthur J. Strawn in 1941 and spent many years in the Mission, McAllen and Edinburg area. Mrs. Strawn was employed as a teacher in the Valley School Districts. When Mr. and Mrs. Strawn retired, they moved to the Hill Country town of Kerrville. Again, they became active in their church and spent many years working with the senior adults, singing in that special choir. Upon the death of her husband, Wanda Strawn moved to New Braunfels to live near her daughter and son-in-law, Jan and Bill Alldaffer. Mrs. Strawn and her husband, also had two other children, Patricia Annette and Larry Arthur who are deceased. She was a grandmother to Joy Owensby, Jay Johnson, Jennifer Johnson, Lee Ann Otto, Cheryl McClenney, Wanda Colwell and great-grandma to Owen and Colby McClenney, Jeremiah and Elijah Otto, Bethany Owensby, Courtney Czerniakl and Danielle Colwell, all from the Houston and Corpus Christi area. Funeral services will be at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 3, at Doeppenschmidt Funeral Home in New Braunfels, with the Rev. Rick Bartlett officiating. Interment will follow at noon at Garden of Memories Cemetery in Kerrville. Funeral arrangements are under direction of Doeppenschmidt Funeral Home in New Braunfels, (830) 609-2733.
