Bio: LeRoy Ervin Herr was born on Friday, December 5, 1930 to Helmuth H. and Viola Olivia (Hoff) Herr on the family farm four miles north of Ree Heights, South Dakota. He attended grade school until the 8th grade at which time he began to farm alongside his father. In February 1952, LeRoy was drafted into the U.S. Army in Sioux Falls. He attained the rank of Corporal and was honorably discharged to the U.S. Army Reserves in February 1954. On April 11, 1954, LeRoy was united in marriage to Deloris Baumiller in Tripp. Together they made their home on a farm in the Tripp area. For the majority of his life, LeRoy was a farmer. In his early years, he also raised cattle and pigs until he focused primarily on his crop farming with his International tractors. In 1993, LeRoy retired from farming and in 2007 they sold the homestead and moved into Parkston.LeRoy was a quiet and jovial man who always had a sense of humor, even in the midst of difficulties. He enjoyed playing cards and Sudoku. He also enjoyed traveling and visiting with friends and family, especially their wintering in the Apache Junction Area near Mesa, Arizona for over 20 years. He was a lifetime member of Jelkin-Harms American Legion Post #142 and Frieden?s Reformed Church, Tripp.LeRoy passed away on Monday, December 7, 2015 at Avera-St. Benedict?s Health Center in Parkston, South Dakota having attained the age of 85 years and 2 days.He is survived and remembered by his wife of 61 years, Deloris Herr of Parkston; children: Mark L. (Joan) Herr, Scot A. Herr, and Glen R. (Renee) Herr; grandchildren: Trisha, Sara, and Melissa Herr; brother Delray Herr; and sister Marcella Breitkreutz and special friend Marvin Ebright.He was preceded in death by his parents.The family would like to share a special thank you to Avera-St. Benedict?s Health Center in Parkston and all the friends and family that cared for LeRoy during his health struggles for the past year.
