Ervin Wanner, 93, Bismarck, died July 12, 2014, at Sanford Health,
Bismarck. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 18,
at Trinity Lutheran Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. Steve Sathre
officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
There will be no visitation, as cremation has taken place.
Ervin was born June 12, 1921, in Wishek, the son of Christian and Barbara
(Springer) Wanner. He was raised and attended school in the Driscoll and
Steele area, receiving his GED from Steele High School. He attended the
State Normal and Industrial College at Ellendale, taking a course in
foundry and industrial arts.
Ervin married Ramona Albrecht from Steele on March 24, 1957. He had a love
for farming and as the saying goes ?once a farmer, always a farmer.? He
worked for Sherman Electric installing TVs and antennas on roofs of many
homes in the area to repairing appliances in the shop. He built the
chancel furniture at Trinity Lutheran Church in Steele and several pieces
of altar furniture for Crystal Springs, Dawson and Driscoll.
In 1974, he and Ramona moved to Bismarck, where he worked for Brady
Construction building cupboards onsite in many homes. His ability to fix
or remodel things was one of a kind. If he couldn?t find the right tool at
the hardware store, he would make his own tool. He loved wood and could
put the most rustic pieces together and make them look beautiful. Many
people have benefited from his work.
After his retirement, he continued to do little jobs out of his home and
garage in Bismarck. He and Ramona enjoyed their bus tours throughout the
states and Canada. He enjoyed playing cards, cording on his guitar and
playing the harmonica.
?Erf? was the neighborhood ?911? fix-it man for the kids; from blowing up
their bicycle tires, footballs, basketballs, or whatever they needed.
Ervin is survived by his wife, Ramona; his sister, Frieda Rath, Apple
Valley, Minn.; two brothers, Arthur (Yvonne) Wanner, Fort Worth, Texas,
and Allen Wanner, Mandan; two brothers-in-law, Ray Albrecht, Bismarck, and
Walt Albrecht, Mandan; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and the surviving
families of Jane and Russell Thune and Lennis and George Thompson.
He was preceded in death by his parents; seven brothers; and three
sisters.
