Bio: Don Magelky, 94, Bismarck, died on March 13, 2015, after a brief illness surrounded by his family. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am Monday, March 23, at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck.Cremation has taken place. A vigil/rosary will be held at 7:00 pm Sunday, March 22, at Parkway Funeral Service.Burial will be held at St. Mary's Cemetery, Bismarck.Donald J. Magelky was born September 4, 1920, on the family farm in Dunn County, near Marshall, ND, to Anton J. and Kathryn (Commes) Magelky. The family moved to Manning in 1926, where he was raised and educated, graduating from Killdeer High School in 1938. After graduating from high school, he began working in the Dunn County Auditors office, continuing to work there until being inducted into the army in June 1943. He served in the European Theater, receiving his army discharge January 1, 1946. In February of that year, he resumed working in the Dunn County Auditors office. On January 10, 1948, he married Dorothy Fischer at Killdeer. In April 1948 he was appointed Dunn County Auditor, serving in that capacity until resigning in September 1952. On October 1, 1952, he began working in the central office of the State Highway Department, continuing until his retirement in 1982. His wife, Dorothy, died on June 24, 1987. Don enjoyed life, his family, fishing, and playing cards. He took pleasure in the annual Magelky Reunions traveling to various locations every summer to enjoy nature with his family. The Reunions including travels to Yellowstone and Glacier National Parks in Montana, the Rocky National Park in Colorado, the Black Hills of South Dakota, Nipawin, Canada, and the memorable 1995 Annual Reunion at Lake Sakakawea.Donald is survived by four daughters, Carol, Susan, Sharon and Diane; three sons, Douglas, Rodney and Peter; one daughter-in–law, Ann Lucas; 14 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Mary Braun.Donald was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Dorothy; his son, Robert; his brothers, Tony and Henry Magelky; and his sister, Bernice Carlson.Adapted from Eastgate Funeral Home obituary

Don Magelky, 94, Bismarck, died on March 13, 2015, after a brief illness surrounded by his family. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am Monday, March 23, at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck.

Donald is survived by four daughters, Carol (Harold) Terry, Morrison, CO, Susan (Frank) DeLeon, Westminster, CO, Sharon Ackerman, Bismarck, and Diane (Dave) Haugarth, Bismarck; three sons, Douglas (Chris), Dickinson, Rodney (Sandy Miller), Denver, CO, and Peter (Shelly) Magelky, Bismarck; one daughter-in-law, Ann Lucas, Bismarck; 14 Grand Children, Shane (Krista) Terry, Colin (Ali) Terry, Ashley and Hope Magelky, Jayme (Mindy) Ackerman, Danylle (Chris) Alarcon, John (Claire Duquennois) Haugarth, Carrie (Steven Byrd) Haugarth, Cody (Amanda) Magelky, Sara (Gabe) Fuentes, Daniel (Vivian) Magelky and Michael, Samuel, and Nathanial Magelky; seven great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Emily Terry, Thrace and Victoria Terry, Tatum Ackerman, Gavin Fuentes and Jack Mageky. He is also survived by his sister, Mary Braun, his sister-in-laws, Dorothy and Mickey Magelky, Joan Meyer, and Nettie Fischer; brother-in-laws, Ted Fischer, Robert (Lois) Fischer, Jim (Jean) Fischer.
Donald was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Dorothy; his son, Robert; his brothers, Tony and Henry Magelky; and his sister, Bernice Carlson.
