  [S927] Obituary. Henry M. Magelky Photo1 Henry M. Magelky, 84, Dickinson died Tuesday, June 2, 2009 at the St. Luke’s Home, Dickinson. Henry’s Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, June 6, 2009 at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Dickinson with Fr. Jeff Zwack as the celebrant. Inurnment will take place at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan. Military honors will be provided by the Dickinson Honors Team following the service. Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., Friday at Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson with a rosary and vigil at 7:30 p.m., with Deacon Jerry Volk presiding. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday. Henry was born October 2, 1924 at Marshall, ND the son of Anton and Katherine (Commes) Magelky. He grew up in Manning and at the age of 16 he joined the CCC’s. Working for the CCC’s Henry helped build the original south entrance of the Theodore Roosevelt National Park. In 1942 Henry enlisted in the United States Army and served with the 879th Airborne Engineers in the China-Burma0India Theater as a Mechanic to crews building airstrips. He attained the rank of Technician 4th Class. Henry married Dorothy Kubisiak on August 13, 1947 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Dickinson. He began working for the U.S. Post Office in 1947 and retired from there in 1979. Henry was involved in Boy Scouts of America working with Troop 35 for 13 years. He was also an outdoorsman enjoying hunting and fishing. He was a life member of the B.P.O.E. #1137. Henry enjoyed playing pinochle, cribbage and having coffee with friends. A good day started with a Latte and a hot game of scrabble. He also enjoyed traveling to visit his children and entertaining his grandchildren. Henry is survived by his wife, Dorothy; three sons, Bruce (Linda), Houston, Texas, David (Becky), Bailey, Colo., and Brian (Julie), Moscow, Idaho; two daughters, Stephanie, Bloomington, Minn., and Nancy (Timothy) Kelly, Dickinson; seven grandchildren, Michael Magelky, Rachel Magelky, Andrew Magelky, Jennifer (Larkin) Seiler, Aaron Magelky, Sean Kelly and Kaitlin Kelly; one great-granddaughter, Elizabeth Magelky; two brothers, Donald Magelky, Bismarck and Anton (Norma) Magelky, Fargo; two sisters, Bernice Carlson, Rosemead, Calif. and Mary Braun, Rowland Heights, Calif.; four sisters-in-law, Emily (John) Wolf, Rochester, Minn., Dorothy Podolanchuk, Bentonville, Ark., Joyce Eglin, Sonoma, Calif., and Judy (Wayne) Busse, Oklahoma City, Okla.; and three brothers-in-law, Leo Kubisiak, Johnson City, Tenn., James Kubisiak, Bismarck, and Ted (Helen) Kubisiak, Bismarck. In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to Dickinson Catholic Schools, Hearing and Service Dogs of Minnesota, or Boy Scouts of America Northern Lights Council Dickinson Troop 26.
