Lillian L. Bruss
Died February 9, 2006
TRAVERSE CITY - Lillian L. Bruss, 96, of Traverse City, died at Bortz Health Care Thursday, Feb. 9, 2006.
She was born Feb. 19, 1909, in Percy, Ill., to Edward and Blanche (Heape) Tribout. On April 8, 1925, Lillian married Elmer Bruss in East St. Louis, Ill.
Lillian had a zest for life and lived it to the fullest. She enjoyed spending weekends and summers at the family cottage on Harsons Island. Lillian's great, strong will and great sense of adventure found her trying just about anything, including the time she kissed the salmon.
Lillian gardened and liked canning vegetables for the family. She loved having her grandchildren visit, especially when they spent the night. She would play dress up with them and treat them with ice cream. Lillian had a special place in her heart for her beloved dogs, Sam and Duke.
She had many hobbies, however, her favorites were shopping garage sales and the QVC network.
Lillian spent the last seven years at Bortz Health Care with her best friend, Marg. Together they attended all the offered activities, with Bingo being her favorite!
Surviving are her son, Donald (JoAnne) Bruss of Leesburg, Fla.; four granddaughters, Deb (Bruce) Lautner of Traverse City, Cyndi (Brent) Lake of Williamsburg, Lisa (Rick) Schaub of Lake Ann and Stephanie Bruss of Traverse City; seven great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and one sister, Helen Glidden.
Lillian was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Elmer Bruss; and great-granddaughter, Melissa Sue Lautner.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2006, from 10 a.m. until the time of funeral services at noon, at the Covell Funeral Home. The Rev. Dave Minger will officiate. Burial will take place Thursday, Feb. 16, at Cadillac Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Clinton Township.
The family asks those wishing to give memorials to please remember the Cherryland Humane Society. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Traverse City Chapel of Covell Funeral Homes.
