Bio: Harry Gratz, age 74, died peacefully on April 17, 2006 at Elm Crest Care Center in New Salem.
Burial will be held at the North Dakota Veteran's Cemetery with full military honors provided by VFW Post 707 and American Legion Post 40.
Harry Gratz was born on June 29, 1931 in Mandan, the son of Adam and Minnie (Kautzman) Gratz. He grew up on a farm near Crown Butte, moving to Mandan in 1945. His first job was at Mandan Beverage. He spent the majority of his career as a plumber/pipefitter at Sanitary Plumbing and Sorenson Plumbing. Harry served his country in the United States National Guard and Army. Harry resided at Elm Crest Care Center since 1982.
Harry possessed a gentle manner. Whenever anybody needed help, he was there for them, constantly going out of his way for the good of others. A favorite pastime of Harry's was watching TV, especially the Lawrence Welk show and the news. When his boys were young, he treasured the time that he could spend with them outdoors, especially fishing and camping. Harry also loved to smoke his pipe. He was a member in the 3rd Degree of the Knight's of Columbus and the American Legion.
Wonderful memories of Harry will forever be held in the hearts of his four sons, Nick (Debbie) of Andover, MN, and their children, Alexis and Jeffrey, Larry (Holly) of Plymouth, MN, and their children Andrea, Rachel and Mitchell, Michael (Christy) of Hiram, GA and their children, Melissa, Jacqueline, Catherine, Brittany and Ashley, and Andy (Brenda) of Hiram, GA and their child, Demetri; three great-grandchildren; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Joe (Angie) of Bismarck and Eugene (Donna) of Apple Valley, MN; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Lorraine (Dennis) Glaser of Mandan and Peggy (Russ) Gustin of Fairfax, VA.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one infant brother, Adam and one infant sister, Mary.
