Leonard W. Mellecker

Leonard W. Mellecker of Louisville died of natural causes Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2003, in Boulder. He was 95.
Born Oct. 17, 1908, in Johnson County, Iowa, he was the son of Joseph W. Mellecker and Magdalen Birrer Mellecker. He married Louella E. Saindon on Jan. 9, 1936, in Grainfield, Kan.
Mr. Mellecker moved to Boulder from Kansas in 1936, then to Louisville in 1946.
He was a carpenter for 40 years, and retired in 1973.
Mr. Mellecker was a member of the Carpenters Union and St. Louis Catholic parish.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking and making toys and gifts for the family.
"He was a gentleman and a gentle man. A great role model for all his children and grandchildren. He will be missed," his family said.
Survivors include his wife of Louisville; four sons, Leroy Mellecker of Arvada, Richard Mellecker of Henderson, Nev., Kenneth Mellecker of Lander, Wyo., and Carl Mellecker of Dannebrog, Neb.; three daughters, Juanita Fischer of Fox Island, Wash., Norma J. Varra of Como and Linda Lovato of Gilbert, Ariz.; 20 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; and two stepgreat-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Duane Mellecker; a grandson, Marty Mellecker; eight brothers; and one sister.
Visitation will be 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Darrell Howe Chapel, 1701 W. South Boulder Road, Lafayette.
A Mass of Christian burialwill be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Louis Catholic Church, 902 Grant Ave., Louisville. The Rev. Henri Tshibambe will officiate. Interment will follow at Mountain View Memorial Park, 3016 Kalmia Ave., Boulder.
