Thomas George Himmelspach, 64, Center, died Dec. 2, 2000 due to an automobile accident west of Mandan. Services will be held at 10 a.m. CST at St. Martin's Catholic Church, Center, with the Revs. Roger Synek and Austin Vetter officiating. Burial will be in the Yucca Cemetery, by the family farmstead, rural Center.
Visitation will be from 2-5 p.m today at Weigel Funeral Home, and will continue at 6 p.m. CST at the church. A parish vigil will be held at 7 p.m. CST today at the church. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the services at the church.
Thomas George Himmelspach was born on Nov. 19, 1936 to Joseph and Monica (Immel) Himmelspach at the family. He was raised and educated in Oliver County. On June 12, 1956, he married Evangeline (Vangie) Freidig in Center. The couple resided on the family farm near Center for the past 44 years. He farmed the family farmstead up until the time of his death. He worked for Kist Livestock and Farmers Union both in Mandan, and worked as a labor carpenter and millwright before he worked for the Boilermaker Local 647 for the past 25 years. He retired at the age of 62.
Tom was a member of the Bismarck Eagles Club. He was also a member of Knife River Pheasants Forever, where he was president for the past five years. Tom loved his music and he played in several bands throughout the years. He was a volunteer for many organizations throughout his lifetime.
Tom and Vangie have enjoyed their summers at their lake home in Pick City for the past 20 years. They have many wonderful memories with special friends and family. Tom enjoyed fishing with his grandchildren and buddies. Since Tom retired they spent the last two winters in Yuma, Ariz. He loved making sausage, having Rocky Mountain Oysters and fish fries.
Tom and Vangie belong to St. Martin's Catholic Church in Center.
He is survived by his wife, Vangie of 44 years, Center; one son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Sue, Clearwater, Minn.; seven daughters and sons-in-law, Deb and Dave Berger, Center, Claudia and Kevin Bender, and Jolene Earl Erdman, all of Bismarck, Lorie and Kent Herbek, Monticello, Minn., Jackie and Dave Lemer, Vale, Ore., Judy and Gary Neuberger, Beulah and Sherri and Dirk Weng, Watertown, S.D.; his mother, Monica Himmelspach, Mandan; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Frank and Kathy, Cheyenne, Wyo., Clem and Leona, Woodinville, Wash., and Jim and Betty, Raymond, Minn.; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Darlene and Ray Kautzman, Mandan, and Deloris and Ted Nordaby, Bothell, Wash.; 24 grandchildren, Kristy, Cody, Craig, Chad, Melony, Amber, Ashley, Alicen, Arika, Joey, Jordan, Michael, Eric, Adam, Travis, Alisha, David, Brandi, Shawn, Shane, Shawn, Samantha, Alexis and Kayla.
