O'Neil (Neil) Henry Douglas, age 79, passed away of natural causes at home surrounded by his loved ones on September 11, 2016. Neil was born in Hastings, Nebraska on June 1, 1937 to Robert and Esther Douglas. He moved to the Yakima Valley with his family as a young child.
Neil spent most of his life working as an automotive mechanic. He worked his early years at Barron's auto wrecking. Then he worked for his brother Don at Douglas auto wrecking. Moving along he did mechanic work for Wofford's auto wrecking as well. He could fix just about anything. He enjoyed spending time with his family and loved being surrounded by his grandchildren. In his later years some of his favorite things to do were: watching three stations on TV (the Military channel, the Chiller channel and the Sci-fi channel). He enjoyed spending time exploring his yard and seeing how his flowers were doing. He liked zipping around in his electric scooter, taking our little doggie, Trinity out to explore with him. His other favorites were his cigarettes, chocolate cupcakes and his Pepsi.
On May 19, 1959, Neil married Judith Sperle. They had two sons, Lawrence and Al (Linda) Douglas. Six grand children, Eric Douglas, Michelle McWain, Elizabeth Douglas, Sadie Douglas, Gracie Douglas, Joshua Douglas and several great grand children.
He was preceded in death by his parents Robert and Esther Douglas; his wife, Judy Douglas and two brothers Fairbanks and Don Douglas.
A very special thank you to his caregiver, Gabby. She was amazing with him and Neil cared for her deeply, as we all do. She was patient, attentive and very kind. The family can not really put into words all the help that she was, even for the short time she was with us.
He is survived by his two sons Lawrence and Al (Linda) Douglas all of Wapato, WA; his sister's Joann Lafollette of Wapato, WA, Judy Borland of Kallspell, MO and one brother Larry Douglas also of Wapato, WA.
A graveside service will be held Friday, September 16, 2016 at 2:30 pm at Reservation Community Memorial Park.
