He served in the U.S. Army. Survivors include his special companion, Lila Ledger, Rapid City; two brothers, Ken Wittinger, Fridley, MN; Alfred Wittinger, Minneapolis, MN. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, February 23, 2013 at Our Lady of the Black Hills in Piedmont, with Rev. Steve Biegler officiating. Visitation will be for one hour prior to services. Burial with Military Honors provided by the Rushmore VFW Post 1273 and the South Dakota Army National Guard will be at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, February 25, 2013 at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.
