He is predeceased by his parents William and Blanche Matze, his wife Francis Matze, 2 brothers Mervin Matze and Douglas Matze, and sister Margaret Lipe. Luther was a member of the Masonic Lodge #77. He was a World War II veteran and participated in the D-Day invasion of Normandy at Omaha Beach.Left to cherish his memory are his sons Stephen E. Matze of Suffolk VA and Stuart Matze (Loren) of Tyner N.C., brothers Kenneth Matze of Richmond VA and Bill Matze (Dody) of Roanoke VA, sister Mary Setzer of Mooresville N.C., as well as numerous nieces and nephews.A visitation will be held Tuesday January 2, 2018 from 6:30 to 8 PM at R. W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home and Crematory. A funeral service will be held Wednesday January 3, 2018 1 PM at R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home and Crematory 509 W. Washington ST. Suffolk, VA with Rev. Myrtle Hatcher officiating. Burial will be held on Thursday January 4, 2018 at 1 PM at Highland Burial Park 3059 N. Main St. Danville, VA 24540 with Rev. Clint Hopkins officiating.
