Howard G. Fischer, 89, passed away Saturday, January 5, 2013 at Woodside Village, Valley Memorial nursing center in Grand Forks, ND.
Howard Glen Fischer, the son of Arthur and Edna (Roeder) Fischer, was born on February 23, 1923 in Grand Forks, North Dakota. He was raised in rural Thompson, ND and he grew up in the Holmes Community and attended rural school at Union township. Howard loved the farm and after finishing school stayed on the farm raising small grains, soybeans and beef cattle.
He found the love of his life later in life, and on May 2, 1981, he married Marion (Klamm) Fischer. They were married for 31 years. Howard loved to read Western novels, build small wood and metal projects, fishing, windmills and gardening. He loved the Holmes neighborhood he grew up in and loved to visit with anyone and talk about farming. He had a great love for children and loved spending time with his grandchildren, nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. Howard remained on his family farm for 86 years before moving to Grand Forks in the fall of 2009.
Howard is survived by his nephew, Curtis Fischer (Colleen); his niece, Debbie Jensen (Russ); and his great nieces, Kristen Kaiser (Michael) and Kaylyn Fischer; Marion's children, Jim Cook and Lori Cook-Kroll (Tom) and grandchildren Katherine and Paula Kroll. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews from the Robert Klamm family. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Howard was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Marion Fischer, and his brother, Marvin Fischer.
Visitation will be held on Friday, January 11, 2013 at Bilden's Funeral Home in Northwood, ND from 5-7 PM with a 7:00 PM prayer service. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 12, 2013 at 10:00 AM at Holmes United Methodist Church in rural Reynolds, ND. Memorials are to be sent to the Holmes United Methodist Church Building Fund in rural Reynolds, ND.
Although Howard was a diabetic, his motto was, "There's no such thing as a bad cookie!"
