James “Jim” E. Lutz, 78, of Bowman passed away on Saturday, Oct. 3 at the Southwest Healthcare Hospital in Bowman.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 9, at the St. Charles Catholic Church in Bowman. Father David Morman will celebrate the Mass with burial to follow in the St. Charles Catholic Cemetery in Bowman.
There will be a rosary and wake service on Thursday, Oct. 8 at the St. Charles Catholic Church beginning at 7:00 p.m.
Public visitation for Jim will be Thursday, Oct. 8, from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Krebsbach and Kulseth Funeral Home Chapel.
Jim E. Lutz was born March 31, 1937, son of Krigor and Madeline (Mosbrucker) Lutz in Bowman.
He attended Cash School through eighth grade and graduated in 1955 from Bowman High School. He attended airline school in Washington State, and then moved to Denver to work in a gas station where every month he had the privilege of returning President Truman’s mother-in-law’s car to her after servicing it.
Following his time in Denver he moved to Baker, Mont., where he helped build a pipeline. In 1957 he moved back to Bowman and worked for Roy Wahl in his gas station. On June 14, 1958 he married his high school sweetheart, LaVonne Flados at St. Charles Catholic Church in Bowman.
To this marriage, three children were born – Lyn, Lincoln and Jean. In 1959 Jim was drafted into the US Army and served in Killeen, Texas, and Goeppingen, Germany. He received an early release to come home and farm with his father-in-law, Lincoln Flados.
Jim and LaVonne remained on the farm until they purchased a trucking business. He retired from farming and trucking in order to enjoy traveling and family with LaVonne. They spent several winters in Alabama.
Jim’s passions included helping his good friend, Berk Bowman, with spring’s work and harvest, spending time with his grandkids, and babysitting his great-grandkids.
He also loved watching football, playing cards at various coffee shops, camping, riding his bicycle and helping the girls at Lasting Visions. His greatest love and source of pride was his family and friends. He also enjoyed “stirring the pot.”
He was a member of St. Charles Catholic Church. He served on the Hart Township Board and the Bowman School Board. He is survived by his wife LaVonne, his son Lincoln (Kim) Lutz, his daughters Lyn (Gordon) James and Jean (Ray) Hazen, grandchildren Kasey (Matt) Burke, Madeline James, Payton Lutz and Lincoln Lutz II, and his great grandchildren Claire, Hudson and Ellie Burke, his sister Genny (Bill) Mason and brother Bud Lutz, sister-in- law, Esther Lutz, brother-inlaw Andy Brown and several nieces and nephews He is preceded in death by his parents Krigor and Madeline Lutz, his granddaughter CJ Hazen, mother and father-in-law, Lincoln and Clara Flados, his brothers Donald (Vivian) Lutz and Lawrence Lutz, his sisters Susie (Robert) Langlee, MaDonna Brown and Ruth Lutz and sisterin- law Ayako Lutz.
