Anton “Mokey” Dinius passed away at his home on March 2, 2015, after a courageous three-year battle with lung cancer. Mokey, the youngest of 12 children, was born on Feb. 4, 1935, in Manning, N.D., to Carl and Ida (Hitchrick) Dinius. After Killdeer High School, he volunteered and served in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1956, patrolling the East-West German border. Mokey was a graduate of Dickinson State Teacher’s College and received his master’s in education from North Dakota State University. He was inducted into the Dickinson State University Athletics Hall of Fame in 1985.
Mokey worked as a teacher and school superintendent in North Dakota from ’59 to ’72; owned and operated a bowling alley/cafe in New England, N.D., from ’73 to ’78; owned and operated a mobile home court in Port Orchard, Wash., in ’78; and worked at Burlington Northern for 18 years in Dickinson, N.D. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus of Lefor, N.D., and The American Legion of New England, N.D. He enjoyed playing cards, spending winters in his motor home in Phoenix and was an avid Green Bay Packers, New York Yankees and Notre Dame football fan.
Mokey is preceded by his parents, nine siblings and two brothers-in-law.
He is survived by his wife, Jane, of 49 years; children Jill (Brian) Brown of Billings, Doug of Billings, Mark, Jason (fiance Monica) of Seattle; grandchildren Rachel, Nicholas and Logan Brown; brother Valentine (Terry) of San Leandro, Calif.; sister Madeline Keller of Butte; sister-in-law Evie Baxter and Leroy Reiner of San Jose, Calif., Shirline Berger of Dickinson, N.D., and Mari Jo Sigl and Mark Klundt of Bismarck, N.D.; brother-in-law Vernon Sigl of Billings and Eugene Sigl of Dickinson; numerous nieces and nephews; and many life-long friends.
