Henry D. Ketterling
July 14, 2013, Henry D Ketterling, 97, Litchville, formerly of LaMoure, passed away Sunday morning at his home in Litchville, ND with his daughter and son-in-law by his side.
Henry D Ketterling was born February 13, 1916, 2 miles South of Fredonia, ND in Logan County to Daboldt Sr. and Elizabeth (Gall) Ketterling of Fredonia. When Henry was three years old they moved to McIntosh County, later the family moved again to a farm seven miles SW of Fredonia and in 1934 the family moved to a farm North of LaMoure.
In 1934 Henry worked for A.T. Miller (his future father- in- law) and he also joined the CC Camp for 8 ½ months, where he cut down trees and made fire lines. He also helped build a dam by Linton, ND.
In April of 1935 Henry moved back home to help A.T. Miller again and he also worked for other farmers.
Henry and Fern Rosamond Miller were married September 26, 1939, at Standing Rock Lutheran Church in Fort Ransom, ND. Henry and Fern lived on and farmed the Howard Quinlan farm and then later the Walt Haberman Sr.’s farm. In February 1942, Henry and Fern bought a farm where they worked and lived together until Fern passed away in March of 1989. Later Henry retired from farming but continued to help his son Marvin farm, until he injured his back in December 2006. He then moved to Litchville, ND, to live with Henrietta and Roy Erickson.
Henry is survived by his two daughters: Darlene (Robert) Barr, Lisbon, ND, and Henrietta (Roy) Erickson Litchville, ND. Twelve grandchildren: Cindy (Jeff) Kummeth, Tammy (Vince) McCleary, Michael Erickson, Laura Lee Erickson, Bobby Barr, Kevin (Lisa) Barr, Amy (John) Skramstad, Laudie Barr (Steph Thompson), Dean (Tara) Ketterling, Sherry Ketterling, David Ketterling, and Doni Ketterling. Eighteen great-grandchildren: Tyler, Brandon, Bethany, Logan, Kaylee, Kyle, Emily, Kieran, Elizabeth, Ellyssa, Kylee, Kayla, Brandan, Tatym, Brayson, Dalten, Allysa and Dakota. Two great-great-grandchildren: Morgan and Peyton. His siblings: Louie, Ellendale, ND, Lawrence, LaMoure, ND, Daboldt Jr., Jamestown, ND, Ella Erbele, LaMoure, ND, Deloris Anderson, Marion, ND, Alvin, Mesa, AZ, Marceal Nannenga, Meza, AZ, Palmer, Ellsworth, WI.
Henry is preceded in death by his parents, Daboldt Sr. and Elizabeth Ketterling, two sons, Norman and Marvin, his brothers, Edward, John, Harry, Art, Albert, his sister Edna McLeod and one great-grandchild, Gage Barr.
Henry will be missed dearly by all who knew him and by anyone who ever met him and were blessed by one of his great stories. He always said he should write a book……..please keep his memory alive and share all his stories. We love you dad and grandpa.
Visitation and prayer service will be Thursday, July 18th, 2013 at 7:00 pm and the funeral will be Friday, July 19th, 2013 at 10:30 am at Zoar Lutheran Church, LaMoure, ND and interment will follow the services at Rosehill Cemetery.
