Birth: Oct. 15, 1907 Edwardsville Madison County Illinois, USA Death: Jul. 9, 1961 Edwardsville Madison County Illinois, USA Obituary from the Edwardsville Intelligencer, Edwardsville, Madison County, Illinois, Monday, June 10, 1961: A requiem mass will be read at 9 a.m. Thursday for Raymond J. Schmidt, 53, of 226 Monroe St., a rose grower 30 years for Woodlawn Gardens. Mr. Schmidt, a lifelong Edwardsville resident, died about 10 p.m. Sunday at his home of an apparent heart attack. Active in Boy Scouting, he was an assistant scoutmaster of Troop 30 and was a member of the Eagle Board of Review of Cahokia Mound Council, Boy Scouts of America. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic church and the Holy Name Society. Mr. Schmidt served with U.S. Army during World War II. Son of the late Louis and Bertha Schmitt Schmidt, he was born Oct. 15, 1907. He was married Oct. 26, 1931 to Miss Angeline DeCarlo at St. Mary's church by the late Rev. C.A. O'Reilly. Besides his wife, he is survived by a son, Kenneth D. of this city; four brothers, Eugene H. of Edwardsville, Louis T. of Highland, Ind., Wilbur of Hammond, Ind., and Aloyius of Wood River; and two sisters, Mrs. Margaret Callahan, Wood River, and Mrs. Evelyn Burris, Medora. He was preceded in death by a brother, Walter Schmidt, and a sister, Mrs. Gladys Kessmann. Funeral services will be held at St. Mary's church with the Rev. Frederick McCarthy, assistant pastor, officiating followed by interment in Calvary cemetery.
