Hello Ursula & Recs,
I am delighted to virtually meet you! I admire your undertaking on
Birkenhoerdt Project!
I am not a professional either, nor do I understand most of the different
databases or search engines. First my legal name is Mary Frances, I have
been called Bridgett since I was young (that is the Irish part of who I
am). I am the fourth chid of Mary Lenore Staudt and James C. Kilbane.
Michael my brother was 3 years older & died on the steps of the California
State Capital in Sacramento in February 2001; in fact it was on my
grandfather Ray's birth date I believe. He was an Under Secretary of
Veterans' Affairs in California. He was unmarried & left no children. My
mother died in Sacramento in 2006, & my sister, Nancy also died in the
Sacramento area in 2015. She was married to Byron Taylor, who died just 6
months afterwards. They had 3 children. Nancy was the second child. My
sister Kathy Topp also has 3 children & she was divorced many years ago &
her former husband has since died. My sister Erin is the youngest. She
never married but does have a daughter. My husband, John Michael Green & I
have been married 47 years & have one son Scott. He is an associate
Archaeologist for the state of California, he works in Sacramento, but he
& his wife live with their 2 children in Lake Tahoe, CA. we did not
grow-up really knowing much about our Staudt relatives unless they came to
California, other than Nancy Staudt whose father was my grandfather's
brother Thurman. She & her family live in California, first near us in Los
Angeles & then just outside of San Francisco. One of her sons, David
Becker lives in Placerville, CA which is not far from downtown Sacramento.
My husband & I moved up to the Sacramento area just recently 2015 when I
retired. My husband has had a series of strokes & I wanted to be closer to
my son & my younger sister. So we have long been a Southern California
family who has "transplanted" our selves to Northern California! I have
been doing family research since I got married & my mother-in-laws family
held a family picnic each year & she wouldn't let me go until I knew al
the different branches of her tree. Thy had a little book telling how 9 of
14 children came to the US beginning in 1870's from Ireland one by one.
Since my grandparents (Albert Raymond & Nancy Malone) divorced in 1925-26
my mother only saw her Staudt relatives on few occasions. Another
"virtual" cousin, Larry Staudt, found me via Ancestry.com & he has sent me
some great information on Francis Staudt. There is a Miltonsburg project
that I found on line that describes the early days of the township that
Nickolaus & Eva settled in. There was a lot givn about John Oblinger,
brother of Maria Oblinger Yunkes. Maria's husband, I have as Peter & he
died in the California Gold Fields, right along the spine of the Sierra's.
I haven't think it was fate that brought all of us here to Sacramento, a
city built from the gold fields. I will gather the information I have &
send it to you after the holidays. Francis served in the Civil war & there
is a photo of him somewhere in my files. Also there were Staudts from
Miltonsburg who died in the attack of Pearl Harbor. In the meantime good
