He was born December 7, 1914 in Fayette, North Dakota to Peter Fischer and Rose Hammel Fischer. He and his wife operated the Donner Inn Best Western Motel. He was active in the Motel Association, Chamber of Commerce, Better Business Bureau and Civil Air Patrol. He was also a volunteer gardener for the San Rafael Park. He leaves many cherished friends and neighbors who remember him for his love of family, reading, traveling and gardening. Joe gardened up to a month before his death. He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Jimmy Fischer, one brother and two sisters. His first wife was Helen Degree and mother of 5 of his children. Second wife is Marjorie as stated on the gravestone. I did not add the children or siblings because some are still alive and I want to protect their privacy.
