Ann was born Feb. 2, 1923, in Fallon, the daughter of John and Wilhelmina (Hellman) Hopfauf. Ann attended grade school at St. Peter and Paul Catholic School, Fallon. She graduated from Mandan High School in 1941 and attended Capital Commercial College in Bismarck. After graduation, she worked at First National Bank in Mandan (now Wells Fargo) and taught for two years at St. Anthony Country School. She married Ralph J. Frank on Oct. 14, 1947, at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Fallon. Following their marriage, they farmed in the Freda area until 1968, when they moved to Flasher.
Ann enjoyed being around people; she was outgoing and active. While in high school, she played basketball and was a cheerleader. She enjoyed music of all kinds; while in high school she sang in the glee club and later on sang in church choirs. Living in Underwood, she made it a point to visit and know the people in the community; she was generous with her time and always expressed kindness to others. Ann occupied part of her time with writing many cards and letters. While at the care center, she enjoyed visiting with residents and staff and always helped out with various jobs throughout the care center. A high point in her life was family gatherings. She also enjoyed letters, cards and phone calls from friends and family. Throughout her life, Ann's faith and prayer brought her through many trials and adversities. Her children were the center of her life, and she was the center of theirs. Many of her gracious qualities will be missed by her friends and family, especially her laughter.
She is survived by two daughters, Patti Frank and Debbie Frank, both of Fargo; one son, Donnie Frank, Fargo; one brother, Richard Hopfauf, Wilton; two sisters, Hildegard Klos, Lakeside, Calif., and Veronica Hopfauf, Bismarck; one sister-in-law, Diane Hopfauf, Flasher; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph, who died in 1988; her parents; three brothers, Jacob, Ralph and Joseph; two sisters, Rose Helbling and Josephine Stein; one brother-in-law, Maynard Klos; and one sister-in-law, Margaret Hopfauf.
