Birth: Nov. 30, 1914 Menno Hutchinson County South Dakota, USA Death: Sep. 21, 1993 Sioux Falls Minnehaha County South Dakota, USA BOWDLE PIONEER, SD, Oct. 7, 1993 — Gilbert A. Quast, age 78 of Menno, died Tuesday, Sept. 21, 1993 at Sioux Valley Hospital in Sioux Falls. His funeral was Sept. 24, at the Grace Lutheran Church in Menno with Pastor Leon Schulz officiating. Interment was at the Menno Cemetery with Aisenbrey-Kostel Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Gilbert A. Quast, son of Christian F. and Emelia (Heckenlaible) Quast, was born Nov. 30, 1914 at the family farm southeast of Menno. He was baptized Jan. 17, 1915, and confirmed June 16, 1929, in Grace Lutheran Church of Menno. He was united in marriage on Dec.. 19, 1943, to Gertrude Johnle at Grace Lutheran Church by Rev. Bishop. this union was blessed with one daughter, Susan. After graduating from Menno High School and Nettleton Business College in Sioux Falls, Gilbert Quast was associated with the Menno State Bank for 36 years. He was a director for the Menno rural telephone Company for 37 years and served as clerk of the Menno Independent School District for 24 years. He was also clerk of the Menno Livestock Auction for many years. He was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church Building Committee and participated in other community activities until his retirement in 1978. Survivors include his wife of Menno; daughter, Susan and husband, Milt Kogan of Los Angeles, CA; grandchildren: Jamie, Millay, Gavin and Tadie; one sister, Idella and husband, Walter Herrboldt of Menno; one sister-in-law, Irene Quast of Menno; one brother-in-law, Fred Johnle and wife, Evelyn of Aberdeen; two sisters-in-law: Bertha Johnle of Roscoe and Olga (Johnle) Senger and husband, Mike of Bowdle; and a host of nieces, nephews and god-children.
