Funeral services for Omar A. Binde, age 67, of Watertown, SD will be at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 14, 2007 in the Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer, Watertown, SD. Rev. Tom Christenson will officiate. Omar passed away on June 5, 2007 at a hospital in Watertown.
Burial, with military graveside rites provided by Codington County Post #17 of the American Legion, will be in the Mt. Hope Cemetery, Watertown, SD. Pallbearers will be: Harold Binde, Elmer Binde, Irvin Binde, Clarence Binde, Ronald Mueller, Wayne Gabriel, and Bob Horstad. Music will be provided by A.J. Sherrill, organist and Don Seim, soloist.
Visitation will be in the Crawford Funeral Chapel, Watertown, SD on Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m. and Thursday preceding services at the church. The family is requested to meet at the church on Thursday by 9:30 a.m. for a prayer service.
Omar was born on October 5, 1939 at Waubay, SD to Helge A. and Manda (Strom) Binde. He graduated from Summit High School, Summit, SD in 1957. After graduation, he worked in the Summit Creamery and Milbank Creamery. He then served in the U.S. Army from 1960 to 1962. Following discharge, he worked at the Cargil Elevator in Milbank, SD.
Omar married Janet Udseth on August 10, 1963 at Summit, SD. The couple moved to Watertown, SD in 1963; where Omar worked for Allied Van Lines and Coca-Cola. He also worked for Red Owl Stores from 1964 to 1989. Then, from 1989 to 1996, he worked for Watertown Wholesale. On June 1, 1996, he purchased Hwy. 81 Liquor and worked there until his death.
Omar was a member of Codington County Post #17 of the American Legion and a pack leader of Cub Scouts for many years. He enjoyed working crossword puzzles, playing cards with his family, sitting by the pool and taking his family out for supper on Saturday nights. In the past few months, Omar�s best companion was the family dog, Precious, even though he wouldn�t admit it.
Omar is survived by his wife, Janet Binde of Watertown, SD; two sons: Troy Binde and his fianc� Cindy Zeeb, and Trent and his wife, Becky Binde all of Watertown; two grandchildren, Zachary Binde and Zandar Binde also of Watertown; four brothers: Harold and his wife, Shirley Binde, of Summit, SD, Elmer and his wife, Doris Binde, of Onalaska, WI, Irvin and his wife, Gail Binde, of Watertown, and Clarence and his wife, Sue Binde, of Hayti, SD; one sister, Arlene and her husband, Harold Stubbe, of Milbank, SD; and one sister-in-law, Sylvia Binde of Milbank.
Omar was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Melvin, and one sister, Irene Hjellming.
