Elizabeth J. “Betty” Ogden passed away peacefully at The Arbors Woodsfield, Ohio following a short illness on the evening of October 22, 2015. She was born August 8, 1922 in Woodsfield, Ohio the only daughter of the late Allen and Ethel (Shacklee) McElfresh.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Jack, who she married in 1943 and son Michael.
She was a lifelong member of the Woodsfield United Methodist Church where she was the longest time member with a cradle roll date in 1922. She co-authored a book on the history of the church, was the church historian, a former church trustee, a member of the UMW, Friendly Class and a long time worker in the church Thrift Shop. She was also the President of the local AARP Chapter and a 60 year plus member of Lydia Temple #149 Pythian Sisters.
She was a community activist with the PTA, for a youth center, city park and other local community efforts. She loved to read, travel and spend time with her family.
Surviving are sons John, of Woodsfield, Richard (Barb), of St. Peters, MO; Gregg (Francene), of Lewisville; Kirk (Renee), of Reno, OH; Bill (Cecelia), of Kimbolton and Andrew (Billie) of Lewisville. Surviving daughters include Nancilee McCormack (Sam), of Cleveland; Patricia Bobkovich, of Woodsfield; Beth Ann Ayers (Jim), of Lore City; Kris Ogden (Mel), of Woodsfield; Suellen Datkuliak (Greg), of Ashland; Kerri Stollar, of Lewisville. She is also survived by 26 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren and her brother Bill (Doris) McElfresh of Blacksburg, VA and two nieces.
Friends received from 2-8 p.m. Sunday October 25, the Bauer-Turner Funeral Home 100 S. Paul St. Woodsfield. Funeral Services will be held 11 a.m. Monday October 26 at the First United Methodist Church 136 North Main St. Woodsfield. Burial will follow in the Oaklawn Cemetery Woodsfield. In lieu of flowers make donations in her memory to The First United Methodist Church, 136 North Main Street, Woodsfield, Ohio 43793.
