Ralph G. Beckler, 71, died Oct. 10, 2010, at Medcenter One, Bismarck. Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 14, at Christ the King Catholic Church, Mandan, with the Rev. Kenneth Phillips as celebrant. Burial will be at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, with military honors provided by the VFW Post No. 707 and American Legion Post No. 40.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan, with a Knights of Columbus rosary at 6:30 p.m., followed by a parish vigil at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour before the service at the church on Thursday.
Ralph was born in 1939 in Solen, to Gregor and Mary (Schantz) Beckler. After serving in the U.S. Army from 1956 to 1959, he married Diane Fleck on Oct. 9, 1961. He attended Barber College, worked as a barber for 12 years, later switching his career to become a dental technician for 32 years. He invested many years of his life helping others, including 27 years volunteering for the Mandan Fire Department. He was also a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus.
As a man of many hobbies, you could always find Ralph keeping busy, whether it was going on walks, playing cards, board games, fishing, golfing or reading. Above all, one of his favorite activities was spending time with his family, especially playing with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Ralph will be missed by his wife, Diane; daughters, Dona (David K.) Hanson and Jane (Duane) Leingang, both of Mandan; his son, Daniel, Alexandria, Va.; sisters, Bernice Ripplinger, Loraine Ripplinger and Elizabeth (Connie) Markel, all of Mandan; brothers, Joseph (Mabel) Beckler, Mandan, Kenneth Beckler, Helena, Mont., and John (Mary Ann) Beckler, Bismarck; five grandchildren, Eric Hanson, Megan Hanson, Heather Grove, Erin Holznagel and Nicholas Leingang; and great-grandchildren, Gabriel Hanson, Miles Hanson, Chance Hagen-Pond and Noah Holznagel.
Ralph was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Benjamin.
