The funeral service for Ida Nehlich, 89, of Aberdeen will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2012, at Zion Lutheran Church, with Pastor Marcia Sylvester officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Aberdeen. Ida died Thursday, Sept. 6, 2012, at Avera St. Luke’s Hospital, Aberdeen.
Visitation will be from 1 to 7 p.m. with family present from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2012, at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, 1111 S. Main St., Aberdeen.
Ida Wanner was born March 8, 1923, on the family farm near Wishek, N.D., to John and Magdalena (Sprenger) Wanner. This is the area where she grew up and attended school.
On Aug. 2, 1946, Ida was united in marriage to Agon Harold Nehlich in Aberdeen. Two children were added to this union. Ida was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Aberdeen and the South Dakota Massage Therapy Association.
Ida possessed a true servant’s heart, and was devoted to her family. She enjoyed and was well known for her ability to hostess and the tireless hours she spent waiting on friends and family. She went to great detail in meal planning and preparation, and was an excellent cook and baker. To those whom knew her, Ida’s kuchen, strudel and rolls were a real treat. Ida was also known to have a fondness for chocolate, gardening/canning and playing card games. Ida was also well known for her deep commitment to her faith, and would often share it with family, friends and acquaintances.
