Birth: Jan. 14, 1921 Freeman Hutchinson County South Dakota, USA Death: Oct. 31, 2005 Sioux Falls Minnehaha County South Dakota, USA Elda Aman was born on January 14, 1921, to Edward and Emma (Woehl) Aman on a farm northwest of Freeman, SD, and died on October 31, 2005, at Sioux Valley Hospice Cottage, Sioux Falls, at the age of 84 years. Elda attended country school through the eighth grade and graduated from Menno High School. She married Harold H. Stevens on July 7, 1943, after he returned from service, at the Reformed Church parsonage of Scotland, SD, by Rev. Zogg. They lived in Parkston, SD, where Elda was employed by the Hutchinson County ASCS office for five years. In 1949, they moved to Sioux Falls, SD, where Elda continued her work for the Minnehaha County ASCS office for the next 32 years, retiring on Dec. 31, 1976. On January 4, 1977, she was employed by the Minnehaha County Equalization office, where she worked for the next 11 years, retiring in July of 1988. Elda was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Sioux Falls, SD. After retiring, she enjoyed doing volunteer work for various organizations, both in the church and in the community. She particularly had a passion for church ministry in the area of hospital visitation and calling the members of the First Baptist Church on their birthdays. Harold died on June 3, 1993, one month short of their 50th wedding anniversary. Before entering Dow Rummel Nursing Home in September, 2005, Elda spent the previous ten years residing at the Trail Ridge Assisted Living Retirement Community of Sioux Falls. Preceding her in death were her parents and her husband. Those left to cherish her memory are two sisters, Lily and her husband, Sam Stahl, of Sioux Falls, SD, Clara Jorgensen of Freemen, SD; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
