Funeral Mass for Leo V. Haag, 90, of Dickinson, ND will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 20, 2014 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Dickinson with Father Todd Kreitinger celebrating. Burial will take place in the spring at St. Patrick's Cemetery.
Visitation for Leo will be held Wednesday, February 19, 2014 from 1:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at Stevenson Funeral Home with a Rosary and Vigil service being held at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue on Thursday, February 19 from 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Leo passed away Friday, February 14, 2014 at his home in Dickinson.
Leo was born October 23, 1930 in Dickinson, North Dakota, the son of Anton and Margaret (Martian) Haag. He grew up on the family farm and attended elementary country school. Leo loved the outdoors and particularly enjoyed working with cattle and horses. He worked on the family farm in Emerson (Dunn County) most of his early adult years. Leo entered the military in 1952 and was later honorably discharged. He worked for the highway department for a short time before he became a ranch-hand at the Steckler Ranch and Bailey Ranch, both located in the Killdeer, North Dakota area. Leo had a contagious passion of the horse culture and ranching. Rodeo and those horses that buck would bring him to reminiscence of earlier ranch experiences. Leo began working for Bogner Appliance in the late 1970's and remained there until his retirement. Upon retirement, Leo became one of the first residents of Villard Terrace Apartments. Leo was very proud of his new surroundings and quickly became the most visible resident. Leo was the greeter at the entrance door and very mindful of the comings and goings within the facility. It was during this time that Leo became actively involved with the Retired Senior Volunteer Programs (RSVP) in Dickinson, earning recognition and awards for his volunteerism. Leo had a desire to "do good" and with volunteer opportunities he was able to help others in the process. He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church.
Leo is survived by two brothers, Louis (Eliane) Haag of Callahan, FL; Roger (Diane) Haag of San Tan Valley, AZ; three sisters, Eva Duletski of Bismarck, ND; Lorraine (Ed) Binstock of Dickinson and Jeanette (Norman) Eggebraaten of Fisher, MN
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Leonard J. Haag, Leo Haag I and Phillip Haag; four sisters, Eleanor Oen, Barbara Haag, Elaine Karsky and Rosemary Haag.
